About Arnold Halász
I write for men over 40 who train seriously but aren’t professionals: a few sessions a week around a job and a family, maybe a half marathon, a sprint triathlon or a long ride on the calendar, and a growing sense that recovery doesn’t work the way it used to. That’s what this site is about: training load, recovery and sleep, and how they fit together once you’re past forty.
Who I am
I’m Arnold Halász. I’ve been in endurance sport for more than four decades, and I’ve trained and raced across cycling and running for over twenty years. I spent a decade in the quadrathlon World Cup (swim, bike, kayak, run), where I won the overall World Cup, age-group world and European titles, and stood on dozens of World Cup podiums along the way. I’m also a multiple national dragon boat champion. I’m a certified cycling and fitness trainer and a rehabilitation therapist, I coach age-group athletes, and I sit on the executive board of the World Quadrathlon Federation as Chairman of Technical Items.
Before any of that became my main work, I spent more than a decade in corporate marketing and management, training around a full-time job and a young son. I left at forty-five. Most of what I write about recovery I learned in those years, usually by getting it wrong first.
Why sleep and recovery
The season after my first world title, I decided one could be luck and a second would prove it wasn’t, so I trained harder than I ever had. By early summer I was slower, more tired than I’d ever been, and I had to stop. The year that followed taught me more about recovery than the racing years did, and the way I train now, building toward long-distance triathlon at fifty, starts with sleep rather than ending with it.
What you’ll find here
Articles on training load and recovery and on sleep, written from my own training and from the athletes I coach. Mechanisms are explained in plain language and linked to their sources. No supplements to sell, no hacks, and nothing that assumes you have fifteen hours a week or a coach of your own.
If you want a structured starting point, the 21-Day Sleep Reset walks through the sleep side step by step.

One thing I’m not
I’m not a doctor, and nothing here is medical advice. If something in your sleep or your body worries you, see a physician first.
